Driving — or even parking — with an expired ITV has consequences
Letting your ITV lapse can get expensive, and the penalty depends on the case:
- Expired or failed ITV: €200. If it failed (serious defects), you may only move the vehicle to take it to a garage or to the station.
- Failed inspection: €500. The vehicle cannot be driven and must be moved by tow truck.
- Parked on a public road: even if you're not using it, the law requires a valid ITV: you can still be fined €200.
