ITV in Torrevieja: what to do when you can't find a slot

If you've tried to book your ITV in Torrevieja on the SITVAL website and found dates weeks away — or no slots at all — you're not alone. Torrevieja is one of the busiest stations in the province of Alicante: it serves the whole Vega Baja and the coastal residential belt, where vehicle density is very high.

On this page we explain how the Torrevieja ITV works, how to book on the official system, and what your options are when nothing is available. If that's exactly your problem — there are no free slots — further down we explain how we alert you the moment one frees up.

Why slots in Torrevieja are so hard to get

Torrevieja absorbs the demand of the entire Vega Baja and of a large stretch of coast with a huge number of registered vehicles — not just permanent residents, but an enormous pool of second homes and foreign-owned cars. It's the usual choice for drivers from Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Guardamar del Segura, Rojales, Pilar de la Horadada and Los Montesinos.

The result is that slots are snapped up as soon as they appear: there's more demand than the schedule can absorb. You can open the SITVAL site at 8 in the morning and find everything in red, then see something pop up moments later and vanish before you can finish booking.

If you're after an ITV appointment in the Vega Baja or near Torrevieja, this is the most oversubscribed station — it's worth keeping an eye on it.

That's what AvisaITV is for: instead of you refreshing the site, we watch availability at the Torrevieja ITV for you and message you on WhatsApp the moment a slot frees up, so you can book it before someone else does.

How to book an ITV appointment in Torrevieja

Appointments are booked on the official SITVAL system. In short:

  1. Go to SITVAL's official appointment booking portal.
  2. Select the Torrevieja station and your type of vehicle (car, motorcycle, etc.).
  3. Choose a date and time from those available.
  4. Enter your vehicle details and confirm.

Step 3 is where most people get stuck: there are no dates. You can try again later (availability shifts through the day as people cancel) or let us alert you as soon as something appears.

How much does the ITV cost in Torrevieja?

ITV fees are set by SITVAL according to your vehicle type and fuel, and they include VAT and the traffic levy (so these are final prices). As a rough guide:

  • Motorcycles and mopeds: from €26.09 (depending on type and approval).
  • Cars and vans (up to 3,500 kg): €34.49 petrol without catalytic converter · €41.47 petrol with catalytic converter · €56.15 diesel.
  • Vehicles over 3,500 kg (diesel): €75.64.
  • Farm tractors (diesel): €13.12.

Periodic inspection fees according to SITVAL (VAT and levy included). They may be updated; check the current fee for your vehicle on the official SITVAL website.

No slots available at all?

That's the norm in Torrevieja, and it's exactly why AvisaITV exists.

We watch for slots at the Torrevieja ITV around the clock and, the moment one frees up, a WhatsApp lands on your phone with the date so you can go and book it yourself on the official site. We do the watching, so you don't have to. And if we don't alert you to a single slot in the first 7 days, you get your €2.00 back.

What to bring on inspection day

  • Vehicle registration document (permiso de circulación)
  • Vehicle technical sheet / ITV card (ficha técnica)
  • Proof of valid insurance
  • Your appointment confirmation

What gets checked in the inspection?

The ITV checks that your vehicle meets the safety and environmental requirements to be on the road. Broadly, the inspection covers the condition of things like the brakes, steering, lights and signalling, tyres, suspension, emissions and vehicle identification (number plate, chassis number and documents). If everything is in order you get a pass; if there are defects, they're graded as minor, serious or very serious depending on how significant they are.

How often do you need an ITV?

How often depends on the type of vehicle and its age. As a general guide, private cars have their first ITV at 4 years from registration, then every 2 years until they're 10, and every year after that. Other vehicle types (motorcycles, vans, commercial vehicles, etc.) have their own intervals. Because these rules depend on current regulations and on your particular case, it's worth confirming the exact date for your vehicle in its documents or on the official SITVAL website.

Driving — or even parking — with an expired ITV has consequences

Letting your ITV lapse can get expensive, and the penalty depends on the case:

  • Expired or failed ITV: €200. If it failed (serious defects), you may only move the vehicle to take it to a garage or to the station.
  • Failed inspection: €500. The vehicle cannot be driven and must be moved by tow truck.
  • Parked on a public road: even if you're not using it, the law requires a valid ITV: you can still be fined €200.

So it pays not to leave it to the last minute. And if the problem is that you can't find a slot, what matters is being in a position to grab the first one that frees up.

Amounts under current regulations; they may change over time.
